My first detailed post from my trip to India is reserved for my favourite outing… a visit to Sanchi, a World Heritage Site. The only other Heritage sites I had been to are ones in London and our very own Nelson’s Dockyard in Antigua.
Bhopal is a beautiful city with amazing scenery and is said to be one of India’s greenest cities. Bhopal is also home to 10 lakes and is aptly tagged as “The City of Lakes”. In this post, I’ll recap with words and images my picture perfect day trip to Bhopal’s Upper Lake.
Back in 2022, I secured an amazing Scholarship opportunity from the Indian Government to spend two weeks in the country learning about Women Empowerment, Policy and Vocational Training. I had the most amazing time and met amazing women who I still keep in touch with to this day. This post is an introduction, obviously, but over a series of post I will be unpacking how I spent my life changing two weeks in India
How Long Has It Been? Too Long! The last time I published anything on this blog was three years ago and in that time so much about me has changed. I feel as though I’ve let this Cotton Tree grow unwatered. I suppose I should take this as an opportunity to reacquaint myself with this space and reintroduce myself. It truly has been awhile.
A lot of toxic behaviours in relationships are deeply rooted in patriarchal thinking. The sense of entitlement men develop in these relationships as well as the desire to take more than necessary from men acting on the “instinct” to provide. Patriarchy has tipped the advantaged far into the male corner certainly but women also use the patriarchy and have developed “trash” tendencies because of it. Men and women are both toxic and “trash” and this has led to a very unhealthy relationship dynamic.
Conditioning is a very important part of my Natural Hair regimen. I have leant since cutting off my hair that shampoo is the devil and will make your hair feel like the Sahara Desert. Conditioner helps your hair maintain moisture and also helps to remove product build-up without completely stripping your hair and scalp of moisture. After a CoWash or a Deep Condition session, your hair is curly, healthy, and vibrant. I've not tried out much deep Conditioners.... in reality i've used two brands (As I Am & DooGro), and so far i've fallen deeply in love with the 'As I Am Deep Conditioner'. My hair is softer, during conditioning my curls are more defined, and at the end my hair is easier to style and smells great all week. Your deep conditioner does not have to be costly but you should research ones that work best with your hair type to avoid disasters. In addition to conditioning your hair, you should always drink a lot of water which helps to lubirate the scalp and skin
It has been 6 months since i big chopped and my hair is already past my ears and on the tip of my nose. I've been taking care of my hair pretty well in my opinion, and i love that my hair is healthy and I'm not forcing my hair to conform and do what it wasn't meant to do. Deep Conditioning is important to make your hair malleable and flexible for styling as well as detangling. If you've recently started your healthy hair journey... Happy trails to you ♥
It irks me every time a person comments on a photograph of a slim person and says that they need a cheeseburger, or on the photograph of a thick girl and calls her a cow... it truly irks me. Weight on both ends of the spectrum is a serious problem in society. The only reason that a problem with self esteem, self perception, and weight problems exist is because society keeps attacking people who they think have a problem. Generalization is not going to help the problem. All slender people are not anorexic and all heavy set individuals are not comfort eating. You would never have known that there was a problem with your weight until someone pointed it out to you. Society constantly victimizes individuals on both sides of the spectrum. This behaviour has not only produced self hate but hatred among the people being singled out. Fluffy girls who dislike slim girls single them out call them toothpicks and twigs, and slim girls ridicule fluffy women and label them cows. How is this healthy for society? As i person on the lighter side of the scale, i have had my fair share of problems. My mother (who i don't live with) has constantly asked me where my food goes to... she tells her friends that i don't eat food which is why i "blow in the wind". Bear in mind that i don't live with her so she has no idea of my eating habits and is judging me based on an assumption. I happen to eat a lot of food but my high metabolism is what hinders me from keeping on any significant pounds... We shouldn't do this to our girls. They are beautiful no matter what size they are. What if society just ignored weight and stopped objectifying women on a whole. Do you know how much better the world would be? The media and the male ideal for women has greatly influenced our view of women. When men preferred that women be skinny, women forced themselves into corsets to please them.. now men prefer curves and ass and women are killing themselves to squat and get plastic surgery & injections. Why can't we just be accepted for who we are as individuals and not what we look like? Being skinny is not a problem, anorexia is, and it so happens to be a side effect of the negative mindset of society. And you cannot alleviate the problem you created by calling all skinny girls anorexic and saying eat more food... that only makes things a lot worse. Weighing more than 140lbs is not a problem... plus size is not a problem. telling a plus sized woman to eat a salad will not suddenly make plus sized women go away. It creates a bigger problem and society is hypocritical for doing this. Society created anorexia and obesity. All i have to say is love the skin you're in.
There are lots of things that attract the eye but you just look at them and move one. Then there are other things that not only attract the eyes, but they awaken something deep inside you. That is when you know that someday you must have that thing and you put it on a wish-list. My amazon wish-list boasts of many items that i cannot afford but so desperately wish to have. Since i love photography, you can expect to find a lot of things that relate to cameras. Also, since i have natural hair you can find lots of curl-tastic hair products that my hair is just begging to befriend. But what is so fascinating about having a wish-list? Well, a wish-list provides the motivation/impetus to get the items on that list. The items on my wish-list are way out of my budget, but, the need to have those items motivates me to book more shoots and get more money to be able to click the coveted "add to cart" option next to the items on my list. One day i'd like to be able to buy everything i need without having a wish list ... but who knows. There is a novelty to having a wish-list and being motivated to get the items you so desperately wish to have. I've put in this post a couple hair products that i've been lusting after.
